Why It
Takes Time, Effort, Goals And Maintenance To Drive Out All The Waste
And Inefficiency In Your Supply Chain?
Everyone
Is Looking For That “Magic Bullet” To Drive Out All Of
The Waste And Inefficiency In Their Supply Chain When In
Fact There Is No “Magic Bullet” -- Just Hard Work!
I just finished reading the biography of
Arnold Schwarzenegger called “Fantastic”, where he talks
about training SIX HOURS a day for the Mr.
Olympia body building contest (he won it seven times and
still holds the world’s record) along with a daily
regimen of vitamins and dieting. Arnold attributes his
“Fantastic” success in body building, movies,
investments (he is a multi-millionaire) and politics to
four things: (i) putting in the time that is necessary
to become a winner, (ii) giving that extra effort when
everyone else gives up, (iii) setting BIG goals
and, (iv) on-going maintenance along the way. As
Governor of California Arnold still gets up at 4:00 A.M.
and works late into the night (he only gets 4 or 5 hours
of sleep a night and he has been doing this for 30
years). And he still trains one hour a day seven days a
week no matter what’s on his agenda for the day as part
of his on-going maintenance schedule.
What Supply Chain
Professionals Can Learn From Arnold’s Schwarzenegger’s
Success Regimen
Everyone is looking for that “Magic
Bullet” to drive out all of the waste and
inefficiency in their supply chain when in fact there is
no “Magic Bullet”. Just Hard Work! Effective
supply chain management isn’t for the faint of heart,
the weak, the frail or the slothful. It requires
tremendous time, exceptional effort, big goals and
on-going scheduled maintenance to be successful.
Here’s some questions for you to ponder:
Are you devoting one hour a day to value analysis
projects? Are your department heads and managers leading
the charge to make it an exceptional effort? What are
your big savings goals for this year? Is the maintenance
of your purchasing data in good shape? Can this data be
used for your value analysis studies?
If the answer to any of these questions
is NO, then you will never be in the winners
class like Arnold, but will be in the “also ran”
category like his competitors.
Only You Can Make
Supply Chain Savings Happen!
If you are looking for your GPO, vendors,
manufacturers or anyone else to make supply chain
savings happen for you – you aren’t going to get the
BIG WINS you are looking for. Only you can make
supply chain savings happen. However, to achieve
meaningful sustained savings you’ll have to pay the
price like Arnold: (i) putting in the time that is
necessary to become a winner, (ii) giving that extra
effort when everyone else gives up, (iii) setting BIG
goals and, (iv) on-going maintenance along the way.

I’m a GPO Account Manager who has been trying to
introduce the concept of Strategic Value Analysis® to
my member hospitals, but with little success. What do
you recommend as some new strategies and tactics to get
my story across to these members? P.Y.
Introducing new concepts and models like
Strategic Value Analysis®
requires time and patience to make inroads into the
healthcare marketplace. This is because everyone
thinks they are practicing value analysis when in
fact they aren’t. They are in fact doing something
else, such as, standardization, capitation,
evaluating GPO offerings, price shopping, etc.
The best way I know to change hearts
and minds is through success stories about how other
healthcare organizations made lasting change and
dramatic savings happen with Strategic Value Analysis®.
Let me suggest that you share some of my
white papers and articles at with your members
to get them to start
“thinking and doing differently” in regards to
value analysis. Then maybe the light bulb will
come on and they will be ready to accept a new way to
save money on the millions of dollars of products,
services and technologies they are buying annually.
Good
luck,

There Is Still “Gold In them Thar Hills”
Your Custom Packs Are Still Bloated With High Cost
Products That Aren’t Needed Any Longer
16% to
26% Savings Is Still Possible If You Know Where To Look
For These Savings!
You would think that after 25 years or so
in the marketplace that there would be little or no
savings in your custom packs because they are now a
commodity. Wouldn’t you agree? Well, I’m here to tell
you that this is a myth! Our studies have shown that
there still is 16% to 26% savings possible with your
custom packs if you know where to look for these
savings.
To make these savings happen all you need
to do is to functionally analyze your top 6 to 8
highest dollar items in each of your packs, then look
for lower cost alternatives to meet their functions.
Nine out of ten times you will find that you will find
lower cost alternatives to these products that will meet
these functions reliably and consistently.
If you have never performed a
functional analysis before you will need to
seriously consider investing in my new book to learn how
to perform this money-saving technique. The book is
available at my web store at
www.strategicvalueanalysis.com/ultimatevalueanalysis.htm.
