How To Move From “Just Good Enough” To High Performance Value Teams
Our Natural Tendency Is To Accept “Just Good Enough” Performance From Our Value Teams, When High Performance Value Teams Should Really Be Our Goal A recent survey by AHRMM showed that 3 out of 4 supply chain professionals were unhappy with their value analysis program’s performance. Well, it’s my supposition that these individuals feel this way because they have adopted the “just good enough” mentality as their value teams operating philosophy as opposed to striving to create high performance value teams at their healthcare organizations. I believe that although our natural tendency is to accept “just good enough” as our standard for most of our endeavors, our goal really should be to raise our standards to the highest level possible in those areas that require it, such as, value analysis. We can raise our standards by, “self-belief, self-motivation, choice, clarity, commitment, awareness, responsibility and action…” as observed by John Whitemore, a seasoned management coach.
The 8 Secrets Ingredients To Raising Your Standards John Whitemore teaches us that high performance value teams will only be created when they have chosen to acquire the 8 secret ingredients that will raise their standards as follows:
As you can see the development of high performance value teams is a journey, not a quest and can only be achieved by the team individually and collectively if they are to move to higher standards.
Coaching For High Performance Is Essential For Success High performance value teams just don’t happen; they are coached to higher standards and success through awareness and responsibility. Supply chain professionals can contribute to the success of their value teams, by coaching them to higher performance, not mandating that they make savings happen. This can only be accomplished when supply chain professionals accept their new roles as coach, sounding board, facilitator, counselor and awareness raiser for your value teams. And most importantly, by coaching by example the behaviors, skills and attitudes you want your value team to exhibit.
